The Star Inn – Squarespace Website & Ongoing Brand Partnership
A Squarespace website, logo refresh, brand photography and ongoing marketing for The Star Inn, a popular country pub in Lingfield, Surrey, with a big menu, plenty of outdoor space and rooms to stay. I first met landlord Simon Skinner in 2022. What started as a website redesign has grown into one of my longest-running client relationships, and I now handle everything from in-pub posters to the monthly email campaigns.

GOOGLE REVIEW
Steven at 51 Degrees created an amazing website for my pub and took my overall brand to a new level. My customers are giving me great feedback on the new site, and I couldn't be happier. Steven was easy to work with, listened to what I wanted to achieve, and delivered professionally; I cannot recommend this company highly enough!

Where it started
When Simon and I met in 2022, The Star was running on an old HTML website that didn’t work on mobile. That’s a real problem for a pub, because most people look up the menu, opening times or a room on their phone. The website also no longer reflected the pub his customers knew, so the brand needed to catch up too.
The brand
I started with the logo. Rather than replace something locals already recognised, I refreshed it and adapted it into versions for the web, print, signage and social media. To show the pub at its best, I briefed a small team of photographers I know and trust on the look and feel we wanted. They shot the food, the bar, the garden and the rooms, which gave The Star a library of brand photography it still uses today.
The website
A pub like The Star does three jobs, so I built the Squarespace site around them: Eat, Drink and Sleep. Each has a clear route in from the homepage. Room bookings link straight through to the hotel’s live availability system, so guests can check dates and book in a couple of clicks. Commissioned photography and a consistent colour palette give the site a polished feel that still reads as a local pub on any screen.
The brand inside the pub
The work carries on beyond the website. I design The Star’s indoor and outdoor event posters, most recently for its Saturday afternoon chilled Ibiza sessions, so the brand looks the same on the wall, on screen and in your inbox.
Keeping the regulars coming back
Every month I produce The Star’s email campaign, covering events, seasonal menus and offers. As I write this, I’m working on this year’s Christmas campaign.
Still going strong
Four years on, Simon still sends me the next event, and I turn it into a poster, an email and a website update. That kind of long-term trust is what I’d like to build with every client, and it’s why I’m proudest of this project.
Run a pub, restaurant or B&B? I’d love to hear about it.
